Home Healthcare Overview

What is home healthcare?
There are a lot of things about home health care that you may not realize if you're looking into it for the first time. First of all, it's one of the most underutilized and valuable Medicare benefits out there. But it's also one of the most misunderstood.

One issue that many find confusing is the difference between Home Health Care and Home Care. These two terms are often mistakenly interchanged which can create the misconception that they are the same.

Home Health Care
Home health care is a skilled service that is more clinically extensive than home care. Home health care requires special licensing and can only be provided by a home health agency (HHA). These agencies are certified and licensed by the state and federal government.

A home health agency can provide physical, occupational and speech therapy, social work, skilled nursing and home health aide services.

Home Care
Home care services specialize in providing hands-on care to less chronically ill patients. The majority of home care is not medically oriented, and for this reason, they tend to serve clients for a longer period of time

Companies that specialize in home care can provide caregivers to help with personal care, homemaking assistance and companionship.
